It’s less than one month to go until Hyper Japan returns to London this summer for its annual three-day long extravaganza packed to the brim with all things Japanese.

Once again, Hyper Japan will take over London’s iconic Tobacco Dock venue, offering its peculiar heady mix of contemporary and traditional Japanese culture, cuisine, and cool over three jam-packed, fun-filled days from 14th to 16th July, 2017.

Featuring well-known performers, exhibitors, food stands, and creative workshops, Hyper Japan is the ultimate event for certified Japanophiles and those new to Japanese culture alike. Drawing inspiration from traditional as well as futuristic Japan, it introduces both new and established trends in Japan’s music, food, drink, fashion, technology and Kawaii (cute) scenes - some exhibitors even manage to combine both!

At this year’s event, Chiptune songstress TORIENA will present a unique blend of futuristic and nostalgic - she writes, sings, programs and produces her own music using two original Game Boys. For those who are inspired by her performance to become the next big thing in the chip music world, there will be an unmissable Chiptune workshop, hosted by local artist Shirobon and featuring TORIENA, where wannabe artists can learn how to use their retro gaming device to create their own magical sounds.

Fans of something a little edgier need look no further, as three-person unit REOL will be taking to the stage to deliver their signature electronica sounds, and musical performance unit KAIEN will bring together dance, technology, video, and 3D holograms for a truly unique experience. Meanwhile, Tokyo Rickshaw will amaze and delight with an interactive artwork incorporating a group of talented, eye-catching young acrobats and a real rickshaw for people to clamber aboard.

Fashion lovers will also rejoice, as Hyper Japan once again hosts the event’s annual fashion show, a visual spectacular showing off the very best in Kawaii style. And for those with a penchant for manga or anime, the COSTest cosplay competition and COSParade showcase will present a series of unbeatable Japanese character-inspired costumes.

Meanwhile, those seeking a more traditional side of Japan will not go forgotten either - they will be able to try their hand at Japanese arts and crafts activities such as calligraphy, origami and kokeshi doll-making, and enjoy performances by KIRIE, who uses a combination of dance, music, and calligraphy to express traditional Japanese myths and stories using modern artistic techniques. Finally, foodies are in for a real treat this year. Hyper Japan’s culinary offerings will reach dizzying new heights, as they welcome London’s Urban Food Fest to the show for the very first time. Chow down on some quality kerbside grub at charming retro food trucks from the hippest street-food vendors this side of Shoreditch.

And for the grownups, the Sake Experience 2017 will offer the chance to sample a variety of Japanese sakes - all the way from globally famous international brands to smaller, niche sake producers - including unusual sparkling sake from MIO. Expect a sensory overload as the sounds, smells, sights and tastes sweep you up and transport you to the Japan of your wildest imagination.

Hyper Japan is a truly unique event offering fun, food and culture for the whole family, with something for everyone no matter what their age or passion. Fall in love with Japan this summer, whether it’s for the first time or all over again, or simply head along to find out what the fuss is all about and discover something quirky, new or cool!
