We have several copies of JapanEasy: Classic and Modern Japanese Recipes to Cook at Home by Tim Anderson up for grabs to SeeJapan readers!
Japanese food: known the world over for its emphasis on rare, top-quality ingredients, precise cooking techniques, and adherence to traditions dating back centuries. That’s the enduring image of Japanese food, anyway. But the truth is that cooking Japanese food at home is easy!
Masterchef champion Tim Anderson is on a mission to prove that literally anyone can cook Japanese food. Contrary to popular belief, many recipes require no specialist ingredients at all and most products can be found at your local supermarket. In fact, you only need seven essential ingredients for your basic Japanese pantry (soy sauce, mirin, rice vinegar, dashi, sake, miso and rice, in case you were wondering!).
With the ever-growing popularity of rice and noodles, now is the perfect time to learn to knock up some of your favourite Japanese dishes at home. In JapanEasy, Tim will introduce you to the world of Japanese cooking via some of its most accessible (but authentic) dishes, showing you how the eat-out Japanese dishes you know and love but shy away from attempting to recreate at home are actually surprisingly easy to conjure up by yourself.
Starting with basic sauces and marinades that easily 'Japanify' any meal, Tim moves onto firm favourites such as gyoza, sushi, ramen and tempura. He also introduces readers to new and lesser-known dishes they will love including Japanese twists on potato salad, croquettes and a ‘carbonara’ that will change your life. None of the recipes cheat with inadequate substitutions for obscure ingredients - this is the real deal.
Stand-out recipes from the book include Tim’s One-Hour Spicy Miso Ramen, Chicken Katsu Curry, Gyoza, Sweet Miso-Glazed Aubergine (one of our favourites!), Stir-Fried Pork with Ginger Sauce, Crab Cream Croquettes, Tempura, Sweet Miso-Grilled Cod, and Matcha Mascarpone Pots.
If you are looking for fun, simple, quick and - most importantly - delicious and authentic Japanese dishes that you can whip up on weekday nights, then look no further than JapanEasy!
