London’s most loved Japanese supermarket, book retailer and ceramics shop will be opening a new flagship store in September 2017, located in Panton Street.

The latest from Japan Centre group, whose restaurants include Sakagura, Shoryu and Ichiryu, will see the opening of a ‘depachika’: stylish department store food halls usually located on basement level, filled with temptingly packaged products and ready-to-eat delicacies. When you’re in one of Japan’s major cities, these are the best places to grab something hot, fresh and delicious any day of the week.

The new food hall will combine a range of unique, specialist rooms and a central 100 seat dine-in courtyard.

In the Tea Room, shoppers will be able to order tea by the gram from knowledgeable staff in a calm, relaxed atmosphere. The Sake Room will offer customers the opportunity to purchase premium bottles of sake, as well as to learn more about the drink from on-hand experts. Finally, a Miso Room will offer miso sampling, and will be home to a wide variety of miso flavours you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere.

You’ll also be able to catch cooking demonstrations and watch chefs whip up a storm in open kitchens. An on-site Japanese bakery will satisfy sweet-toothed shoppers who love Japan's non-savoury side.

Vegetable stalls, meat counters and fresh sashimi, as well as an authentic home-ware section, will complete the offerings of this all-in-one Japanese shopping and dining experience.

The designers of this new flagship store are CADA Design, whose clients include Dean & Deluca, Shinsegae and Jose Pizarre, so expect something special from Japan Centre Panton St when it launches later this year.
